The Engineering Department of Bellview Airlines comprises five units, namely
- Line maintenance
- Production and Planning
- Procurement and Repair Management
- Non-destructive test
- Wheel and Brake shop
Not only do these five units interact with one another, they also interact with other engineering/maintenance personnel world wide to deliver efficient engineering and maintenance services at all times.
The department currently equipped with qualified, skilled and tested manpower and adequate material resources. The department played a significant role in securing the EASA 145 Certification for the company, thus placing Bellview Airlines (the only Airline in Nigeria so certified) at the same maintenance standards as obtained in Europe.
Line Maintenance unit is made up of a crack team of qualified and seasoned Airframe and Powerplant maintenance personnel.
The unit handles scheduled and unscheduled line maintenance tasks such as the preflight, transit and daily checks, A and B checks, AD/SB incorporation, AOG situations, etc all in a bid to ensure delivery of aircrafts safe to fly.
Personnel undergo recurrent trainings to keep them abreast of the latest development in Aircraft Maintenance and to equip them with the relevant skills.
In addition, the aircraft heavy maintenance checks, engine, APU and component overhaul and repairs are handled by FAA/EASA certified MROs such as Royal Air Maroc, Casablanca Morocco, EAS France, United Services (United Airlines USA), Ethiopian Airlines, APM Belgium, Newjet Engine Services, USA just to mention a few.
Production and Planning unit serves as the hub of the Engineering department. It coordinates all engineering/maintenance activities as well as serves as the link between the Management and the department. The unit not only generates and coordinates various levels of aircraft maintenance tasks to be accomplished based on information from the Line Maintenance, manuals and publications from relevant regulatory authorities, it also devises the most effective way of task execution with minimum disruption to operational schedule.
The unit also maintains up – to – date aircraft airworthiness records useful for management decision – making, audit and reference purposes.
The unit maintains the link between the department and various MROs, aircraft and component manufacturers as well as CAAs worldwide.
Procurement and Repair Management unit basically deals with aircraft parts provisioning and repairs.
The e–Procurement approach adopted ensures aircraft parts are sourced from certified vendors and/or OEMs on a real time basis via the internet – based Inventory Locator System (ILS). This transforms into aircraft minimum downtime as parts are sourced for and provided within a short period of time and that at competitive market prices.
The unit ensures that all aircraft parts procured have the Dual Release Tag, that is the FAA 8130 and EASA Form One Release Certificates.
The unit also coordinates the prompt repair/overhaul of unserviceable LRUs by approved repair/overhaul facilities at the most economical cost to the company and within reasonable TAT.
The Techstores unit maintains the Bonded and Quarantine stores. Among other things, the unit receives and issues aircraft parts into and from the Bonded store, keeps an up-to-date inventory of the parts using the ATP Inventory Software and most importantly ensures that parts in the Bonded store are kept at the recommended minimum re – order level to minimize downtime due to AOGs and/or snag rectification.
Non – Destructive Testing (NDT) unit executes all non-destructive test (Eddy Current, Ultrasonic, etc) and borescope inspections. The unit is equipped with necessary equipment as well as with qualified and skilled manpower.
The Wheel and Brake shop manned by qualified and seasoned mechanics is dedicated to wheel and brake build – up. At present, the unit handles both Goodrich and Honeywell (formerly Bendix) wheels, resulting in savings for the company.
